Social AR is a branch of augmented reality commonly used on social media applications like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. It consists of effects that can modify what is seen through a camera lens, superpose digital objects on a physical environment, and are meant to be shareable.

There are 3 types of social AR:

AR Commerce 

AR Experiences

AR Trends

AR Commerce allows brands to share directly a product and give the opportunity for people to try it using their phone.

AR Experiences allows brands or individuals to create a memorable and creative AR effect, usually more complex and sophisticated. It is a great way to share their vision and image.

AR Trends are effects that go viral and become very widely shared. They are typically simpler to use or have clear instructions and outcomes. Here are some examples with TikTok:

AR filters from a growth perspective are revolutionary. Let me explain. When you have created a filter on Instagram, all of your followers will be able to use it directly from their story camera. It will appear as an option they can select when swiping right.

 

This means that if even 10% of the people that follow you use the filter, thousands of stories could be posted. It could get views from millions of other users that do not follow your account. A percentage of these people will then try the effect and the cycle repeats. In some cases this can lead to exponential growth.

 

With a filter, your username is displayed next to the filter name. All the people who view a story with a filter applied to it will have a direct link to the Instagram profile who uploaded it.

 

It would look like so with a username after the "by:"

 

I have been creating for the past years and have seen tremendous growth due to them. It all started with "La Vie en Rose", a filter that was featured on the Instagram pages of @Pubity, @View and @Tyrese

This made me gain millions of views; my Instagram profile grew in the thousands of followers.

 

I now create filters part-time and can make anything: face alternations, 3D effects, 2D effects, animations, tap interactions, makeup, mini-games, audio, etc. I have collaborated with 10+ clients such as Bleumode, Suicoke, INTO Global, YAP Bank, Digital Fashion Week to make more than 20 unique effects while maintaining a 5-star satisfaction rating.
